Rules for the Chat
Preface
Before telling you the rules we want you to know what the chat is for.
We want to give you the chance to talk to other WoD players in real time, just for fun or to seek help. So that the chat does not become chaotic (and therefore less useful) there are a few rules which all chat users should observe.
Rules
Players with ~, &, @ or % in front of the name are chat admins or mods. Always follow their instructions.
Please refrain from the use of font modifiers including, but not limited to: underlining, bold, and the usage of colors.
The WoD Netiquette applies to the chat in exactly the same way as it does in the game. Please take the time to read it before you start.
These are the most applicable rules for the chat:
Behavior towards other users
Every player want to be treated in a polite and friendly manner. Please treat other players as you yourself want to be treated.
Offenses
Its forbidden to slander or insult other players, or to express yourself in a racist or otherwise discriminatory fashion.
Advertisement, Flooding, Capital letters
- Advertisement in WoD-Channels is forbidden. If you want to give another user a link to a website, or anything similar, please talk to the user in a private chat. Advertisement for private rooms in open rooms can lead to exclusion. The invite-function is also seen as a form of advertisement.
- Flooding is the repetition of a sentence, or anything else, in an annoying manner. This is forbidden.
- Chatting using only capital letters is the equivalent of shouting and is unwelcome.
- Any usage of bugs, exploits, or other use of IRC mechanics with malicious intent will be handled with severe punishments including, but not limited to: kicking and/or banning from the smart-irc network.
Imitation
Imitation of other players, moderators, judges, or administrators from the chat or the game is - for obvious reasons - forbidden.
Nickname
Every user should set their nickname to be the name of one of their heroes. When asked by a Chat Admin or Mod, a user or hero name must be provided.
Hurtful, slanderous, insulting, racist or discriminatory nicknames are not allowed. We are in wod-chat and not at a politicial demonstration or a party.
The nicknames should not be of excessive length. Please use a short name where possible. If you do not know how you can change your nickname, please ask a Chat Admin or Mod.
If you are not at the computer, you can suffix your nick with "-away" so everybody can see you are temporarily unavailable. This is a suggestion, not a rule.
Offenses against these rules
Anybody who offends against these rules can be kicked or banned from the channel or chat.
Generally the same punishments set out in Offenses against the Nettiquette are also available to the Chat Admins or Mods. If you have any problems with other chat users please talk to the Chat Admins.
Special rules for the Trade Chat
The trade chat should not be used for small-talk but for trade. Some short conversations may be inevitable, but please keep it to a minimum and respect the primary function of the trade chat, especially when there is a large volume of trading.
If you found a trade partner please click on his name in the user menu. Further negotiations can continue in the private chat.
Do not continuously ask about the same items. This will annoy other users and is not welcome (see Flooding above).
You may also abbreviate search/buy to [b] and offer/sell to [o].
Example: "[b] bolts" or "[o] arrows"
If you want to know how much an item is worth you can abbreviate price check to [pc].
This will both save you time and help others understand your needs.
Thank you :-)
